Food-Dependent Exercise-Induced Anaphylaxis
Food-Dependent Exercise-Induced Anaphylaxis (FDEIA) is a rare but serious allergic reaction triggered by a combination of certain foods and physical activity. Individuals may eat a specific allergenic food, like peanuts or shellfish, and later, during exercise, experience severe allergic symptoms such as hives, difficulty breathing, or even fainting. The symptoms can occur only when exercise follows the consumption of the allergen, making it challenging to diagnose. It's crucial for those at risk to recognize their triggers, and carry an epinephrine auto-injector to treat potential allergic reactions swiftly.
