Follicular thyroid carcinoma
Follicular thyroid carcinoma is a type of thyroid cancer that develops in the follicular cells of the thyroid gland, which produce thyroid hormones. It tends to grow slowly and usually doesn't cause noticeable symptoms initially. This cancer can sometimes spread beyond the thyroid to nearby tissues or through the bloodstream to other parts of the body, such as the lungs or bones. Diagnosis typically involves imaging and a biopsy. Treatment generally includes surgical removal of the thyroid gland, followed by radioactive iodine therapy to target remaining cancer cells. The prognosis is often favorable with appropriate treatment.
