Follicular cells

Follicular cells are specialized cells in the thyroid gland that surround tiny sacs called follicles. Their primary role is to produce and secrete thyroid hormones—mainly thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3)—which regulate metabolism, energy use, and overall body functions. These cells absorb iodine from the blood, incorporate it into hormone molecules, and release the hormones into circulation. Proper functioning of follicular cells is essential for maintaining balanced metabolic processes and overall health.
