FOLFOX

FOLFOX is a combination chemotherapy treatment used mainly for colon cancer. It includes three drugs: folinic acid (leucovorin), fluorouracil (5-FU), and oxaliplatin. These medicines work together to kill cancer cells or slow their growth. Folinic acid enhances the effectiveness of 5-FU, which interferes with cancer cell DNA production. Oxaliplatin damages cancer cell DNA directly. FOLFOX is typically given in cycles over several weeks, aiming to reduce tumor size and prevent cancer from spreading. It is administered in a hospital or clinic setting under medical supervision, and side effects can include fatigue, numbness, or gastrointestinal issues.
