Foley Catheter

A Foley catheter is a flexible tube inserted into the bladder through the urethra to drain urine. It has a small balloon near the tip that is inflated with air or fluid once in place, keeping the catheter securely inside the bladder. This medical device is commonly used for patients who cannot urinate normally, during certain surgeries, or when continuous urine drainage is needed. It helps healthcare providers monitor urine output and manage urinary issues effectively. The catheter remains in place until it’s no longer needed and is carefully removed to avoid discomfort or infection.
