FLQ (Front de libération du Québec)
The FLQ (Front de libération du Québec) was a radical Quebec separatist group active mainly in the 1960s and early 1970s. They sought independence for Quebec from Canada and used violent tactics, including bombings, kidnappings, and attacks, to promote their cause. The group believed that armed struggle was necessary to achieve political freedom for Quebec. Their most notorious act was the October Crisis in 1970, during which they kidnapped a British diplomat and Quebec's Deputy Premier, leading to the government invoking special powers. The FLQ's activities ultimately diminished after government crackdown and societal changes, but they remain a significant part of Quebec's history.
