Florida Statehood
Florida became a U.S. state on March 3,, 1845. Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, it was explored by Europeans in the 1500s and later ceded from Spain to the United States in 1819 through the Adams-OnĂs Treaty. Prior to statehood, it was a U.S. territory, growing in population and development. Florida's admission was driven by its strategic importance and economic potential, especially in agriculture and trade. As the 27th state, Florida's entry into the Union marked a significant expansion for the United States into the southeastern region.
