Flood control measures
Flood control measures are strategies to prevent or reduce damage from excess water during heavy rains or storms. These include building levees, dams, and reservoirs to hold or redirect water; creating drainage systems to safely carry rainwater away; and restoring natural wetlands to absorb floodwaters. Urban planning can also prevent flood risks by avoiding construction in flood-prone areas. Together, these measures help protect communities, infrastructure, and the environment by managing water flow, reducing the likelihood of floods, and minimizing their impact when they occur.
