Flint Water Study
The Flint Water Study investigated the health effects of lead contamination in Flint, Michigan’s drinking water. Starting around 2014, when the city switched its water source to the Flint River without proper treatment, lead leached from old pipes into the tap water. This increased residents’ exposure to lead, a neurotoxin harmful especially to children. The study documented elevated blood lead levels, health issues, and infrastructural problems, revealing significant failures in water management and public health oversight. It highlighted the importance of safe water practices, infrastructure maintenance, and government accountability to protect community health.
