Flensburg Government
The Flensburg Government was the rump cabinet led by Karl Dönitz that temporarily governed Germany after Adolf Hitler's death in 1945. It was based in Flensburg and recognized as the legal government by the Allies to manage Germany’s surrender and transition at the end of World War II. However, it was a transitional authority, limited in power, as Germany was crumbling and facing imminent defeat. The government existed only briefly, ultimately dissolving when Germany surrendered unconditionally, marking the end of Nazi rule and the beginning of occupation by Allied forces.
