Flatirons
The Flatirons are a series of iconic, sloped rock formations located near Boulder, Colorado. Composed mainly of sandstone, they rise sharply from the surrounding plains, creating a striking landscape feature. Named for their flat, angled appearance reminiscent of giant irons or “flatirons,” these formations are popular for outdoor activities like hiking and rock climbing. Geologically, they formed over millions of years through processes of sedimentation and erosion. The Flatirons are part of the Colorado Front Range and serve as a symbol of Boulder’s outdoor culture and natural beauty.
