Flame test

A flame test is a simple method used to identify specific metal elements in a substance by observing the color they produce when heated. When a sample containing a metal ion is placed in a flame, the heat excites the electrons in the metal atoms, causing them to emit light at characteristic colors. For example, sodium produces a bright yellow, copper gives a greenish-blue, and lithium results in a crimson color. This colorful emission helps scientists determine which metals are present in a sample based on the distinct colors produced during the flame test.
