Fixed-gear bicycles

A fixed-gear bicycle, or fixed-gear bike, has a drivetrain that directly connects the pedals to the rear wheel without a freewheel mechanism. This means when the bike is moving, the pedals keep turning and cannot coast independently. Riders can control speed and brake primarily through pedal resistance and sometimes additional brake systems. Fixed-gear bikes are valued for their simplicity, lightweight design, and efficient power transfer, making them popular for urban commuting and racing. They require more finesse to ride smoothly and safely because of their direct drive, but they offer a highly responsive and minimalist cycling experience.
