Five Demands

The "Five Demands" refer to a list of key requests made by the Hong Kong protesters in 2019 to address issues of governance, autonomy, and social justice. They include: (1) the complete withdrawal of the extradition bill, which many saw as threatening legal freedoms; (2) an independent investigation into police actions during protests; (3) the retraction of the classification of protests as riots; (4) amnesty for arrested protesters; and (5) genuine electoral reforms to ensure fair representation. These demands aimed to protect civil liberties, promote accountability, and enhance democratic participation in Hong Kong.
