Fitts and Posner Model of Skill Acquisition
Fitts and Posner’s Model describes how people learn new skills in three stages. First, the Cognitive stage involves understanding what to do, often requiring conscious effort and attention. Next, the Associative stage is where the skill becomes more refined, and actions become smoother with practice. Finally, the Autonomous stage is when the skill becomes automatic, requiring little conscious thought, allowing for multitasking or adaptation. The model highlights how mastery develops gradually as individuals move through these phases with practice and experience.
