Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty
The Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty (FMCT) is a proposed international agreement aimed at preventing the production of new fissile materials—such as highly enriched uranium and plutonium—that can be used to make nuclear weapons. By restricting the development of such materials, the treaty seeks to reduce the risk of nuclear proliferation and promote global security. While negotiations have been ongoing, the treaty has not yet been finalized or universally adopted; however, its goal is to create a legal framework that limits new sources of nuclear weapon materials worldwide.
