First Philippine Republic
The First Philippine Republic, also known as the Malolos Republic, was the Philippines' first independent government established in 1899 after its declaration of independence from Spain. Led by President Emilio Aguinaldo, it aimed to create a sovereign nation with its own constitution and governing institutions. However, its existence was short-lived, as the United States, following the Spanish-American War, asserted control over the Philippines in 1898, leading to the Philippine-American War. The republic signified Filipino aspirations for independence, though it was ultimately interrupted by foreign occupation, marking a significant chapter in the country's fight for sovereignty.
