First English Parliament
The First English Parliament, held in 1295 during King Edward I's reign, was the first formal assembly of representatives from across England to advise the king on governance and taxation. It marked the beginning of a parliamentary system where commoners and nobles came together to discuss and approve laws and taxes, helping to limit the king’s absolute power. This assembly laid the foundation for the parliamentary democracy we see today, evolving over centuries into a key institution in England’s political system.
