First Anglo-Sikh War

The First Anglo-Sikh War (1845-1846) was a conflict between the British East India Company and the Sikh Empire in northern India. Tensions arose over political disputes and British attempts to expand their influence. The Sikhs, led by Maharaja Gulab Singh and others, fought to defend their independence. Despite initial victories, the British eventually gained the upper hand after several battles. The war ended with the Treaty of Lahore, which reduced Sikh power and territory. This marked the beginning of increased British control over Punjab, setting the stage for later conflicts and the eventual annexation of Punjab into British India.
