FIP

Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a serious illness in cats caused by a mutation of the feline coronavirus. Many cats carry the coronavirus without symptoms, but in some, the virus mutates and triggers an immune response that causes inflammation in the abdomen or chest. This leads to symptoms like weight loss, fever, and fluid buildup around organs. FIP is typically spread through contact with infected feces or saliva. It is often fatal, and diagnosis can be challenging. While there is no universally effective cure, early detection and supportive care can improve quality of life.
