Fine Particle Pollution
Fine particle pollution, also known as PM2.5, refers to tiny particles in the air that are 2.5 micrometers or smaller—about 30 times smaller than a human hair. These particles can originate from vehicle exhaust, industrial processes, fires, and natural sources like dust and pollen. Because of their small size, they can easily enter the lungs and even the bloodstream, potentially causing health issues such as respiratory problems, heart attacks, and worsened asthma. Fine particle pollution is a significant environmental health concern, especially in areas with high traffic, industrial activity, or frequent wildfires.
