Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1
Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 1 (FGFR1) is a protein found on the surface of certain cells. It acts like an on-off switch triggered by specific growth factors called fibroblast growth factors (FGFs). When FGFs bind to FGFR1, it activates the receptor, which then sends signals inside the cell to promote processes like cell growth, development, and healing. Proper functioning of FGFR1 is essential for normal development, but mutations or abnormalities can contribute to diseases such as cancer. Essentially, FGFR1 helps cells respond to their environment, guiding growth and repair.
