Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)
Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) is a network protocol that transports storage data, typically sent over Fibre Channel (used in data centers), across standard Ethernet networks. It consolidates storage and network traffic onto a single infrastructure, reducing complexity and cost. By encapsulating Fibre Channel frames within Ethernet frames, FCoE allows high-speed, reliable storage communication over existing Ethernet cables and switches, enabling efficient data center operations and better resource utilization without sacrificing performance or security.
