FFR (Fractional Flow Reserve)

Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) is a measurement used by doctors to determine how much a blockage in a coronary artery is affecting blood flow to the heart. During a procedure, a tiny wire with a pressure sensor is inserted into the artery beyond the blockage. By comparing blood pressure before and after the blockage, doctors assess whether the narrowing is significant enough to restrict blood flow and need treatment. FFR helps ensure that only necessary interventions, like stenting or bypass surgery, are performed, leading to better patient outcomes and avoiding unnecessary procedures.
