Feudalism in England

Feudalism in England was a social and economic system during the Middle Ages, structured around relationships of landownership and loyalty. Landowners, called lords or nobles, granted land (fiefs) to vassals or knights in exchange for military service. Peasants or serfs worked the land, producing food and goods, and owed labor or rent to their lord. This hierarchy created a mutual dependency: lords provided protection, while vassals and serfs supplied service and resources. The system maintained order and stability but also reinforced social inequalities, with power concentrated among the landowning aristocracy.
