Fetishism of Commodities

Fetishism of commodities is a concept from Marxist theory that describes how, in a capitalist society, people tend to see products as having intrinsic value and power, rather than recognizing the human labor and social relations involved in producing them. This leads commodities to appear as if they have a mysterious quality, almost like magic, that determines their worth. In reality, the value of a product is rooted in the human effort and social context behind it, but this is obscured by how commodities are presented and perceived, creating an illusion that they possess an almost autonomous significance.
