Festival of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha)
Eid al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, is an important Islamic holiday commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. To honor this, Muslims around the world perform Qurbani, the ritual slaughter of an animal such as a sheep, goat, cow, or camel. The meat is then shared among family, friends, and those in need. The holiday emphasizes faith, charity, and community, and coincides with the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. It typically lasts several days, involving prayers, festive gatherings, and acts of giving.
