FERPA

FERPA, or the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, is a U.S. federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It grants parents or guardians the right to access their children's school records, request corrections, and control who can see those records. Once a student turns 18, these rights transfer to them. Schools must obtain consent from students to disclose personally identifiable information, ensuring students’ academic information is kept confidential. FERPA aims to promote transparency while safeguarding student privacy in educational institutions.
