Fernando III, also known as Saint Ferdinand, was a medieval Christian king of both Castile and León in Spain during the 13th century. He played a key role in uniting those regions, strengthening the Christian kingdoms, and leading the Reconquista—reconquering territory from Muslim rulers. Known for his leadership, piety, and sense of justice, he expanded his kingdom's territory significantly and promoted religious and cultural development. He was canonized as a saint in 1671, recognized for his piety and efforts to promote peace and Christian values in Spain.
