Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope
The Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope is a spacecraft launched by NASA to study the universe’s most energetic phenomena, such as black holes, neutron stars, and gamma-ray bursts. It detects high-energy gamma rays, the most energetic form of light, which can reveal extreme processes happening in space. By observing these gamma rays, Fermi helps scientists understand the origins of cosmic rays, the behavior of extreme objects, and the structure of our universe. It operates in space, above Earth's atmosphere, which blocks gamma rays, allowing it to make detailed observations that aren’t possible from the ground.
