Fenton's Reagent

Fenton's Reagent is a solution used to break down pollutants, especially organic contaminants, in water and waste treatment. It consists of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) combined with iron salts (usually Fe²⁺). When mixed, the iron helps activate the hydrogen peroxide, producing highly reactive molecules called hydroxyl radicals. These radicals are powerful oxidizers that attack and decompose harmful substances, turning them into less toxic or inert forms. Fenton's Reagent is effective for cleaning contaminated water, especially in removing complex pollutants that are difficult to treat with conventional methods.
