Fenfluramine
Fenfluramine is a medication once used to help with weight loss by affecting brain chemicals that control appetite. It increased levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that can suppress hunger. However, it was withdrawn from the market because it was linked to serious heart side effects, including damage to heart valves. Recently, low-dose fenfluramine has been repurposed and approved for treating certain forms of epilepsy, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, showing its potential to reduce seizures. Its use now is carefully monitored, considering its benefits and risks.
