Femoral Head Osteonecrosis
Femoral head osteonecrosis is a condition where the blood supply to the ball-shaped top of the thigh bone (femoral head) is disrupted. Without enough blood, the bone tissue begins to die and weaken, which can cause the femoral head to collapse and deform. This leads to joint pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving the hip. It often develops gradually and is linked to factors like trauma, certain illnesses, or long-term use of corticosteroids. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are important to slow progression and preserve hip function.
