felsic rocks

Felsic rocks are types of igneous rocks that are rich in silica and light-colored minerals like quartz and feldspar. They typically form from magma that cools slowly beneath the Earth's surface, resulting in coarse-grained textures. Because of their mineral content, felsic rocks are often light in color and have lower density compared to mafic (dark, magnesium, and iron-rich) rocks. Common examples include granite and rhyolite. These rocks are important in geology for understanding Earth's crust composition and the geological processes that create diverse landforms.
