Feline Leukemia Virus

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a contagious virus that infects cats, affecting their immune system and blood cells. It spreads primarily through close contact, such as grooming, biting, or shared food bowls. Infected cats may show symptoms like weight loss, weakness, or anemia, but some remain asymptomatic for years. FeLV can suppress the immune system, making cats more vulnerable to other diseases, and it may lead to cancer. There is no cure, but affected cats can live many years with proper veterinary care, and preventing spread through testing and indoor living reduces transmission risk.
