Fata Morgana
A Fata Morgana is a complex type of mirage caused by the bending of light rays passing through layers of air at different temperatures. These temperature differences create a refractive gradient, which distorts the image of distant objects, often making them appear elongated, elevated, or false in shape. Typically observed over the horizon, especially over cool water surfaces, this optical illusion can make ships, coastline features, or other distant objects appear distorted, floating or mirage-like. It results from atmospheric conditions that cause light to curve, producing an intriguing and often dramatic visual phenomenon.
