Fanny Mendelssohn

Fanny Mendelssohn was a talented 19th-century composer and pianist from a prominent German musical family, and the sister of famous composer Felix Mendelssohn. Despite societal expectations limited women’s opportunities in music at the time, she composed over 400 pieces, including piano works, songs, and chamber music. Many of her compositions were published under her brother’s name. Today, she is recognized for her musical talent, her significant contributions to Romantic-era music, and her perseverance in creating and sharing her art within a restrictive society.
