Famous Trolley Problem
The famous Trolley Problem is a moral thought experiment that asks whether it’s acceptable to actively intervene to save more lives at the expense of one. Imagine a runaway trolley heading toward five innocent people on the track. You can pull a lever to switch the trolley onto another track, where only one person is. The dilemma is whether it’s ethical to take action that results in one person's death to save five others, raising questions about the morality of actively causing harm for the greater good versus passively allowing harm to occur.
