The Family Policy Compliance Office (FPCO) is a division within the U.S. Department of Education that enforces laws aimed at protecting student privacy and controlling access to online educational content. It ensures that schools and educational service providers comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), which requires filtering and monitoring internet use to shield students from harmful content. The FPCO also oversees the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), safeguarding students’ educational records and privacy rights. Its role is to ensure a safe and secure online learning environment for students while maintaining compliance with federal laws.
