Family Medical Leave (FMLA) is a U.S. law that allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year for specific family or medical reasons, such as the birth or adoption of a child, caring for a seriously ill family member, or addressing one’s own serious health condition. During this time, job protection is maintained, meaning the employee can return to their position or a similar one after the leave ends.
