Familial dysautonomia

Familial dysautonomia (FD) is a genetic disorder affecting the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary functions like blood pressure, temperature regulation, digestion, and tears. It results from a mutation that impairs nerve development, leading to challenges in sensing pain and temperature, balance issues, poor digestion, and sensitivity to stress. Symptoms often appear early in life and can include difficulty swallowing, frequent vomiting, and blood pressure problems. While there's no cure, management focuses on symptomatic care, such as monitoring vital signs, providing supportive therapies, and addressing complications to improve quality of life.
