Familial arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy

Familial arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a genetic heart condition where the muscle tissue in the right ventricle (the heart's chamber that pumps blood to the lungs) is gradually replaced by scar and fatty tissue. This abnormal tissue can disrupt the heart's electrical signals, leading to irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) and increasing the risk of fainting, heart failure, or sudden cardiac arrest. It often runs in families due to inherited gene mutations. Diagnosis involves imaging, electrical tests, and family history, and management includes lifestyle adjustments, medications, or implantable devices to reduce risks.
