Familial Adenomatous Polyposis
Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) is a genetic condition where individuals develop many small growths called polyps in the colon and rectum, often starting in their teens or twenties. If untreated, these polyps can become cancerous over time. FAP is inherited, meaning it runs in families, due to a mutation in the APC gene. Most people with FAP will develop colorectal cancer if they don't undergo regular screening and preventive treatment, such as surgery or medication. Early detection and management are crucial to reduce serious health risks associated with this condition.
