False Belief Test

The False Belief Test is a psychological experiment used to assess whether someone understands that others can hold beliefs that are different from reality and their own knowledge. For example, a child watches as a toy is moved secretly when another person is absent. When asked where that person will look for the toy, the child's answer reveals whether they understand that the person has a false belief—thinking the toy is still in its original spot—even if the child knows it has moved. Passing this test indicates developing theory of mind, an awareness of others’ mental states.
