FALN (Armed Forces of National Liberation)

The Armed Forces of National Liberation (FALN) was a Puerto Rican nationalist group active mainly from the 1970s to the 1990s. They aimed to achieve independence for Puerto Rico through armed attacks, including bombings and sabotage, targeting symbols of U.S. presence and economic infrastructure. While some members saw their actions as a fight for Puerto Rican self-determination, many viewed their tactics as violent and disruptive. The FALN has been linked to several attacks resulting in injuries and deaths. In 1999, President Bill Clinton commuted the sentences of many FALN members imprisoned in the U.S., a move that remains controversial.
