Fainting Goat Syndrome
Fainting Goat Syndrome, also known as myotonic goat syndrome, is a genetic condition affecting certain goats. When startled or excited, they experience a temporary muscle stiffening and fall over for about 10 seconds. This occurs because their muscles involuntarily tense up due to a genetic mutation, but they remain conscious and fine afterward. The condition is harmless and simply a unique trait in these goats, often showcased for entertainment or educational purposes. It’s important to handle them gently, as their fall can sometimes cause minor injuries.
