Factor Xa Inhibitors

Factor Xa inhibitors are a class of medications that prevent blood clots by targeting factor Xa, an essential enzyme in the clotting process. By blocking this enzyme, these drugs reduce the formation of blood clots, lowering the risk of stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. They are often prescribed for conditions like atrial fibrillation or after certain surgeries. Compared to older blood thinners, factor Xa inhibitors typically offer more predictable effects and don't require frequent blood tests for monitoring. Examples include rivaroxaban and apixaban.
