Fabula and sjuzhet

Fabula and sjuzhet are concepts from narratology that describe different aspects of storytelling. Fabula refers to the raw, chronological sequence of events as they happen in the story, like the "story" itself. Sjuzhet, on the other hand, is how those events are arranged and presented to the audience—it's the storyteller’s chosen order and method, including narration, flashbacks, or multiple perspectives. Essentially, fabula is the story’s underlying structure, while sjuzhet is the storytelling technique used to shape that structure for the audience.
