Fab fragments

Fab fragments are parts of an antibody designed to specifically recognize and bind to a target, such as a virus or bacteria. Antibodies are Y-shaped proteins in our immune system that identify invaders. Each antibody has two main parts: the Fab fragment and the Fc region. The Fab fragment is the part that directly attaches to the target, similar to a key fitting into a lock. By isolating this portion, scientists can develop targeted therapies or diagnostic tools that focus on specific molecules without the additional functions of the full antibody.
