Eye pressure
Eye pressure, often measured as intraocular pressure (IOP), refers to the fluid pressure inside the eye. This pressure is essential for maintaining the eye's shape and proper function. It is regulated by a balance between the production and drainage of a fluid called aqueous humor. Normal IOP ranges from 10 to 21 mmHg. Elevated eye pressure can be a risk factor for glaucoma, a condition that can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss. Regular eye check-ups help monitor and manage eye pressure for maintaining overall eye health.
